How to Bring Up Trying Something New With a Partner

One of the most common questions we hear isn't about a product at all — it's 'how do I even bring this up?' Wanting to introduce something new is normal. The conversation just needs a little intention behind it.

Pick a neutral moment

Don't raise it in bed, in the moment, or right after a disagreement. A relaxed, unrelated moment — a car ride, a walk, over coffee — takes the pressure off and gives both people room to respond honestly instead of reactively.

Lead with curiosity, not a verdict

"I've been curious about trying X, how would you feel about that?" opens a conversation. "We should really try X" can land like a demand, even if that's not the intent. Framing it as shared curiosity makes it easier for your partner to say yes, ask questions, or say they need time to think.

Expect 'not right now' to be a real answer

A partner not being ready isn't a rejection of you — and pushing past a hesitant answer tends to close the door for longer than just being patient does. If the answer is no or not yet, that's information, not a failure.

If you do decide to shop together, treating it like any other errand — casual, unhurried, a little bit fun — tends to lower the stakes more than treating it as a big event.
