Introducing Bondage Gear Into Your Relationship

Bondage gear is one of the most common 'what should we try next' questions we get from couples — and one of the easiest to start with safely, as long as a few basics are in place first.

Agree on a safe word before anything else

A simple word unrelated to anything you'd normally say during sex ('red' works fine) gives either partner a clear, unambiguous way to pause or stop. Agree on it, and on what happens when it's used, before gear comes out for the first time — not in the moment.

Start with gear that releases easily

Beginner-friendly restraints — soft cuffs with quick-release clips or Velcro, rather than rope or locking buckles — let either partner get free in seconds if something feels wrong. Save more advanced or harder-to-remove gear for once you both have practice with the basics.

Never restrain someone and leave them unattended

This sounds obvious written down, but it's the most common real-world safety lapse. Whoever isn't restrained stays present and attentive for the whole scene, checking in verbally if anything about the other person's reaction seems off.

Talk afterward, every time at first

A short debrief — what worked, what didn't, anything that felt off — matters more early on than most couples expect. It's how you both learn what to keep and what to adjust next time, rather than guessing.
